Dr. Lim attended Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, where he was awarded the Dermatology Award for highest achievement by a medical student within the department. He subsequently completed his internship in the department of internal medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Here, he was recognized by his peers with the 'Intern of the Year Award' for excellence in patient care.
He completed his residency in Dermatology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he served as the Chief Resident. As a resident, Dr. Lim was awarded the 'John McSorley, MD Award,' given to one resident each year who attains excellence in the field of dermatology as demonstrated through superior achievement in patient care and research.
Dr. Lim trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Facial Plastic Reconstruction in Pittsburgh, under the direction of John A. Zitelli, MD, who himself was trained by Dr. Frederic E. Mohs, the founder of Mohs surgery, and David G. Brodland, MD. Both Dr. Zitelli and Dr. Brodland are former presidents of the American College of Mohs Surgery and have a combined 60+ years of experience in Mohs surgery, skin cancer pathology and reconstructive surgery. Their innovative surgical techniques have shaped the current landscape of skin cancer treatment across the world. This direct descent from Dr. Mohs enables Dr. Lim to provide his patients with the highest-quality Mohs surgery possible.
During his fellowship, Dr. Lim was trained to perform microscopically-guided removal of skin cancers of all types, with special training in advanced immunohistochemistry techniques to treat rare and high-risk tumors. He is one of a select group of surgeons in the country with formal training in intra-operative immunohistochemistry to treat rare and high-risk tumors.
Dr. Lim also has special expertise in the reconstruction of cosmetically sensitive areas like the nose, lips, eyelids, and ears.
Dr. Lim has published numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored book chapters, such as: 'Local Anesthetics,' 'Risk of Subsequent Cutaneous Melanoma in Moderately Dysplastic Nevi Excisionally Biopsied but With Positive Histologic Margins,' and 'Correlation of Basal Cell Carcinoma Subtype with Histologically Confirmed Subclinical Extension During Mohs Micrographic Surgery: A Prospective Multi-Center Study. He reguarly publishes scientific articles and presents at national, regional, and local academic meetings.
Dr. Lim served on the executive board of the Colorado Dermatologic Society and holds numerous positions within the American College of Mohs Surgery, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and American Academy of Dermatology. He volunteers his time advocating for patient safety.
